If you are on the lookout for the most delicious and juiciest cuts of meat all over, one of the best choices would be New York Strip Steak. This cut is located as a part of the T-bone steak, or basically the larger part. In the traditional sense, a New York steak should have the bone intact, however the smaller part or the tenderloin and the T-part of the bone is often removed. While the manner of the cutting differs from one individual to another, this article will illustrate to you how to cook a New York strip steak and make it really good.

1. Always go for fresh meat. Fresh meat can be found in many stores but if you have some difficulty in finding the right kind of cuts, you can go for mail order steaks. These steaks can be ordered through online means or through catalogs, making it more convenient for you to find top quality and fresh meat with the right cuts.

2. Make sure that you season the meat thoroughly. However it is not advisable to over season a New York strip steak since this cut of meat is already full of flavor on its own. You would not want to end up cooking a chuck roast instead. If you must add seasoning, use salt and pepper, or even garlic for a bit of spice.
3. Allow the meat to soak up all its seasonings, so make sure that you allow time in marinating. This is highly essential in order to cook a perfect tasting New York strip steak. You will have to allow the meat to sit for 30 minutes to an hour at room temperature. If you decide to go for mail order steaks, make sure that you properly defrost them first.
4. Next you will have to prepare the grill as well as the pan for cooking. These are the most commendable means on how to cook a New York strip steak. For those using the grill, set the grill at high temp, close it and then allow it to warm for a specific length of time. Those using charcoal will only need to make them flaming red before placing the steak on the grill. Pan frying the steak is also possible, but you will need to use a cast iron pan and make sure it is smoking hot before placing the steak in.
5. When cooking, the best way to go is to prepare it medium rare. You can do this for about three to four minutes, on each side. A more well-done preparation is fine but if you overdo it, the meat can lose its juices.
6. Some people prefer flipping the steak when grilling or pan frying. But make sure that you do it only once. If you must turn it several times, turn it half way carefully rather than have to flip the meat several times.
7. Checking the steak if it is done is important. By making a fist and tucking your thumb inside your fist you can check whether the meat is well-done, medium rare or rare. Use the base of your thumb to check: if the meat is hard, this is well done, if you press the muscle it is rare and if you encounter a middle tension you are more likely looking at a medium rare steak. Medium rare and medium-well is recommended.
Using a meat thermometer also helps.

8. You can now eat it but not without having it rest for about 5 minutes after cooking.
